I just arrived home after spending the last week and a half away. It involved doing some TV promotions for my concert at Tuachan, some spots for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and finishing my symphonic album with Cliff Maag, who has been recording with me for almost 40 years and informed me a week ago this is his last project before he retires… What an honor my Cliff to have your talents and expertise bless my life all these years! Above all, I’m grateful for your true and eternal friendship through it all. I love you my dear friend!!! During the downtime while driving back to the recording studio to finish up recording the album (by the way it’s done✅🤗), my bestie Darla was driving and it gave me some time to write down a few ideas for this week’s Sunday post. It was so funny when we both simultaneously mentioned one of our favorite inspirational books! I believe I gave this book to everyone I knew when it first came out because of the simplicity of the message and because one of my favorite people in the world wrote it. It’s called the 6 B’s…. Be Grateful, Se Smart, Be Clean, Be True, Be Humble, Be Prayerful (By Gordon B. Hinckley). Can you think of better advice? 🧐😁 As I pondered this topic I started to think of all the great advice I have received over the years. My mother gave me tons of advice (I share some of it at times with you), but the closest to my heart lately is the quote she had displayed in our home:
“Mine House is a House of order, organize yourself; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God.”
This quote and my mom were not only referring to a tidy home environment, (which she insisted on 👍) but also, the organization of our body, mind and soul and its needs.
This is where I learned the valuable principles of taking care of my physical home, my mind, and body. Through education, exercise, abstaining from alcohol and smoking, and not medicating any emotions through drug use, I realized I was given extra “time.” Time I might not have had if I had chosen an addictive and controlling path. I have seen first hand the trap created by these bad habits and how they can alter one’s behavior. I feel blessed by following the advice of parents whose motivation was only to help me focus on learning how to become a better, more authentic me!
Like the parable of the talents in the Bible, when we don’t bury our gifts or talents it helps us use them to bless other people; and the more we do, our God allows us more opportunities to multiply and use them.
I believe the best way to do this is to follow the “advice” of our creator and live by His scriptures and His commandments! I know He wants us to have a happy life here on earth and eternally. Sometimes I think people, especially in today’s world, think these truths feel old-fashioned, controlling or arrogant, when in fact, it’s simply... wisdom! And truly God wants us to learn truth by following His example—not be controlled!
I truly am an amalgam of the teachings and advice from our loving Father in Heaven, and the many wonderful people who have been placed in my life. I am who I am today because of them and you! YOU have added such joy to this journey we call life!!! I know no matter where we are or what we have done (or haven’t done) on our path, when we chose to follow God’s advice and realize His word is given in love and for help, we will be blessed. He is just a prayer away! All we need is to humbly ask and He WILL answer! Just listen and follow. 🤗😁♥️👈
