I was sent a meme the other day showing a person filled with light going into a room full of people. In just a bit of time that one person’s light spread to everyone (now that’s the kind of contagion we want!) I have had that experience many times when I am around someone who is filled with light and energy—I feel happy, positive and hopeful. It isn’t a coincidence that those are all traits of the Savior. When I am around people filled with light I find myself wanting to be kind and helpful. The Apostle Paul wrote what we should be, “an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” When we try hard to be an example of the Savior we naturally become “as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:15).
Ezra Taft Benson said, “The Lord works from the inside out. The world works from the outside in.... Christ changes men, who then change their environment. The world would shape human behavior, but Christ can change human nature.”
Think of that... when we choose to follow Christ we can change the world! Right now some people are looking away from the Savior. Maybe with the confusion and turmoil we are experiencing they are losing hope and think they can do this life on their own. Maybe they feel a higher power isn’t real, it’s easy to fall into the thinking that we are capable of handling anything that comes our way, that we have all the answers, and that there is no need for assistance from a higher power. But I know that isn’t true.
We need the Savior now more than ever. Pierre de Chardin said, “we are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” When we come to understand our reliance and emphasis should be on Savior and then choose to follow His example we will be a light in the lives of those around us—our family members, coworkers, friends, acquaintances, or total strangers.
I love to surround myself with people who are lights to the world. For one it reminds me to “lighten up” if I am having a bad day! When I am around people who are examples of the Savior I want to follow their example just like Paul said. And when people radiate the Lord’s love it helps us feel His love for us. The Savior is all light... and when we stay in His “light” we can “see” so clearly. We can “see” the solutions the Savior has put in our path for the problems we have. We can “see” opportunities to serve, and even our own inadequacies. The Savior’s light is there for us... I always want to be the example He wants us to be, especially in today’s world.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
Lets go forward this week in his light and love! And now I’m going to go spend some time with my grandsons, they are pure light for me. 🥰
