It’s been almost 10 years since I released my “I Can Do This” album, but this song still rings true... “Every hour I need Thee”! This hymn was one of my favorite songs to record for the album. We recorded it in Prague, and from the simple strings to the chimes and the orchestration, it has always touched my heart so deeply. I was reminded of it while reading my scriptures today, and changed my Sunday post to this topic I was reading about.
Consider the apostles of the Lord right after He was crucified and then resurrected. They had only been with Him for 3 years, so after the mortal ministry of Jesus Christ was over, I am sure that even though they witnessed his resurrection they must have wondered, “what do we do now?” The disciples had been taught the Savior would be killed, but either they didn’t understand, or just didn’t want to believe it. They had walked with the Savior and watched him perform one miracle after another, but now it seemed it was time to go back to their former lives. So Peter and John and a few other Apostles did what they knew how to do....
“They went fishing” 🎣
At dawn after a night without success, the apostles saw a stranger on the shore who asked if they had caught anything... “We have caught nothing,” they said.
Then the stranger said:
“Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find.”
They let their nets down and couldn’t even lift them up they were so heavy with fish. John looked at the stranger and said, “It is the Lord.”
At that realization, Peter jumped in the water to get to the Savior!
Then the Savior asks, “Peter, do you love me more than you love all this?” (Pointing to the fish). Peter said, “Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee.” The Savior then asks him three times, and all three times Peter says, “Lord, … thou knowest that I love thee.” Each time the Savior says to Him, “Feed my sheep.” (taken from John 21:1-17)
The Savior was clear if we love Him, He will feed his sheep. But how? Then something I had been taught years ago came to me, “Preach the gospel everyday, and if you have to—use words.” The Savior’s gospel is love, and everything He did was because He loves us. So love must be the greatest way to feed his sheep! So do I love Him? Yes! And I will follow Him and His example. This story touched me deeply ❤️ so I am going to be more kind, more grateful, more forgiving and more aware of all the people around me. #HappySunday
Have the best Sunday ever...
