On Friday's show, The Talk surprised me with a conference call with all of my children! I haven’t seen them together since quarantine started. They’ve been so good staying in isolation! I couldn’t stand being away anymore, so for my Mother’s Day present, my sweet husband Steve drove me to Vegas so I could get together with my kids for a big hug! What a wonderful day! I will be seeing Stephen and Claire’s kids at a gathering on Wednesday in Utah. 🤗♥️
This scripture was sent to me this morning by a dear friend who said I was a “busy woman,”☺️ and I had to share it with all of you fabulous ladies on this day.
“God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.” ~Psalm 46:5
How perfect was this scripture at this early hour!!! Yes God knows we all have a lot to do as women and also knows we expect a lot of ourselves— but I know this—He will always help us!
On this day, this special day, I hope all women will take a step back and remember we are enough. My sweet Mother, who was my example and teacher of the power of a good women, told me a story one day about this lady who went to apply for a job after her children were all grown up. I’ll paraphrase what I remember...
When she went into the employment office, they asked her what she did. The woman said, “well, I’ve been a stay at home mother for 25 years.” The man at the counter looked at her with some disdain and said “we will see if we can find something for you, but you really don't have any qualifications." The woman went home very upset as his words kept playing in her mind, “you have no qualifications," so she sat down and began to write:
“You said I have no qualifications, yet I have a degree in nursing—she thought to herself, I nursed five children back to health many times. I’m a therapist and motivational speaker—I kept peace in my home while helping children understand the importance of self-esteem, being kind to each other and overcoming difficult situations. I am a chef with a degree in nutrition and I’m also a magician—I made healthy meals three times a day for children who only wanted to eat skittles and french fries (if that’s not magic I don’t know what is?!). I’m the head of security at a convalescent home—I watched over my parents who lived next door to us and taught my children the importance of loving and honoring their grandparents. I am a personal trainer, teacher and a head coach—my children needed to learn how to kick a ball, overcome a bully, keep track of their cleats, wash their clothes and clean their rooms. I’ve also scheduled practices, games, swimming lessons, dance, and piano classes with the precision of an elite tactician, so I respectfully disagree with your small minded observation that I am not qualified in anything. If anything I am OVER-qualified! So this job seeker is going elsewhere for a career in something more to my obvious qualifications.”
Ha, LOVE MY MOM!
So for all of you incredible mothers, feel free to add to this woman’s resume and those of you who are mothers to many others' children, and furry children too... Happy Mother’s Day!
P.S. I guess they’ve updated my mothers letter to an actual video now... watch this! 😂👍
