Do you know how hard it is for me not to talk 😂. Well it’s even harder for me when I can’t sing! Somehow I contracted laryngitis in one of our meet and greets last week. I’m not sick, I just couldn’t get my vocal cords to work for Friday and Saturday shows @FlamingoVegas. It makes me sad because I know some of our audience came very far to see the show… but Donny filled in like a trooper for both of us. I know he doesn’t have the fabulous shoes I wear 👠🤣 but he does such a great job. 👍😘 Sitting at home alone, not talking to anyone and feeling I might have let people down, brought two thoughts to my mind:
A few weeks ago a dear friend told me a story from a class he was taking. The teacher asked a woman if she had a car,
“Yes” she said.
“Does your car have rear view mirrors?”
"Yes”
“How about a windshield? Does it have a windshield?”
“Yes”
“Which one do you look out of most of the time while driving?“ She started laughing at the thought of driving her car only looking out of the rear view mirror.
“I look out the windshield because it would be dangerous to only look out the rear view mirror while driving!”
And right there a simple truth is told, looking forward as opposed to looking backwards. I know how tempting it is to look back and wish for a different outcome on one thing or another, but it isn’t helpful and only makes us feel badly. 😥 Each new day gives us an opportunity to move ahead with faith and hope and accept what we can’t change. With the Lord we have the power to handle what weighs us down but it’s up to us to believe we can do it. I have found that just the act of “looking forward” provides hope which the Lord turns into the energy needed for whatever challenges our earth life has in store, whether big or small.
My husband asked me the other day if I had ever heard of the Golf theory. He said it is one of the reasons why golf is so addictive. He explained that after people play a round of golf they don’t usually think about the bad shots they made but tend to focus on the one great shot they made that day. The thought and feeling they get when thinking about this one great shot makes them want to play again and again!
Wouldn’t it be the best if at the end of the day we could focus on our one “great shot” instead of the ones that didn’t land where we intended? But mostly wouldn’t it be the best if we gave our burdens to the Lord at the end of the day and didn’t carry them into tomorrow?
The Savior is quite direct in Matthew 11 when He says... "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
There IS such great hope and peace here! We do what we can then surrender our burdens to God. We can handle any challenge if the Lord is by our side, He will never leave us to do it alone, I know it!
